The Breastfeeding Manifesto Website is brought to you by a Coalition of organisations working to ensure that all mothers, irrespective of their socio-economic background, are enabled to make fully informed choices about how to feed their babies and are supported fully in their choices.

We are delighted to be able to Dedicate this Website to:

• all the healthcare professionals who find the time to fully support breastfeeding mothers

• all the researchers who have demonstrated unequivocally the health benefits of breast milk

• all the volunteer breastfeeding counsellors and peer supporters who tirelessly work in the community

• all the mothers who didn't receive good information about the benefits of breastfeeding and who therefore were not enabled to make a fully informed choice about how to feed their babies.

• all the mothers who have effortlessly enjoyed a fulfilling breastfeeding experience with their babies

• all the mothers who have breastfed their babies, despite having had problems and pain to overcome

• all the mothers of normally healthy babies who wanted to breastfeed but did not enjoy success. Many of these mothers didn't get the necessary information, advice and support to enable them to breastfeed, many of them suffered significant pain, both physical and emotional, before they stopped.

• all the fathers who have supported their partners in giving their babies the best start in life

• all the mothers who have expressed breast milk for their sick and or premature babies and to mothers who have expressed breastmilk for their cleft-palate babes or babies born with neurological or congential problems

• all the mothers of premature and sick babies as well as the mothers of cleft-palate babies and babies with neurological problems, who wanted to, but were not able to express and/or breastfeed their babies. Many of these mothers didn't get the necessary information about expressing often and early, about the benefits of skin-to-skin and of double-pumping. Many of these mothers were in impossibly stressful situations and may not have had sufficient support, both in the hospital and at home (for example with older children to look after), to enable them to express and/or go on to breastfeed.

• all the mothers who donate some of their breast-milk to milk banks for premature and sick babies

• Alison Baum's late Uncle, Prof. David Baum, an internationally respected Paediatrician, who died suddenly and unexpectedly while he was the President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. David was a superb academic and clinician, he always had a wonderful way with babies and children. He was also a key advocate for breastfeeding. His presence is sorely missed by his family and by healthcare professionals world-wide.

(The idea for the Breastfeeding Manifesto and the Breastfeeding Manifesto Coalition was the joint brain-child of Alison Baum, Founder of Best Beginnings and David Kidney MP.
The inspiration for the Breastfeeding Manifesto Dedications Page and Best Beginnings Dedications page came from the superb book "Bestfeeding" by Fisher, Renfrew and Arms).
